The Galleria, just steps from the Duomo, is, for example, one of the iconic spots, with the side wings crossing to form the famous Octagon, a symbol of the city’s vibrancy.
Around it are some of the most prestigious shop windows in the center: Prada, Tod’s, Bernasconi, and historic venues like the Miani Zucca café, an old “artist’s den,” and the Savini restaurant, where Milan’s high society and beyond have gathered over the years. Hidden in the Galleria is also a gem called Piumelli, a unique glove shop with a small window display, but whose brand is known worldwide for the quality and refinement of its pieces.
A few steps from the Galleria, under the arcades connecting Piazza Duomo to Piazza San Babila, you’ll find Rinascente, another unmissable place; for Milanese people much more than just a department store.
The name, invented by Gabriele D’Annunzio and advertised for decades through Dudovich posters, has made it a true legend. Beyond the many sales ateliers (mostly single-brand), Rinascente offers a new food store on the seventh floor, allowing it to stand alongside universally known department stores like Harrod’s in London or Lafayette in Paris, as well as spaces for conferences and cultural events overlooking the panoramic terrace with a stunning view of the Duomo’s spires.
