The Galleria, just a stone’s throw from the Duomo, is, for example, one of the iconic places, with the side arms that intersect to form the famous Octagon, a symbol of the city’s vibrancy.
Around it are some of the most prestigious shop windows in the center: Prada, Tod’s, Bernasconi, and historic venues like the Caffè Miani Zucca, an old “den” of artists, and the Savini restaurant, where Milanese high society and more have gathered over the years. In the Galleria there is also a gem like Piumelli, a unique glove shop with a small window, whose brand is known worldwide for the quality and refinement of its garments.
A few steps from the Galleria, under the arcades that connect Piazza Duomo to Piazza San Babila, is Rinascente, another must-visit place; for Milanese people, much more than just a department store.
The name, invented by Gabriele D’Annunzio and the image advertised for decades by Dudovich‘s posters, made it a true myth. Besides the many sales ateliers (mostly single-brand), Rinascente offers a new food store on the seventh floor, allowing it to stand alongside universally known department stores like Harrod’s in London or Lafayette in Paris, and spaces for conferences and cultural events, overlooking the panoramic terrace, with a stunning view of the Duomo’s spires.
