The San Ferdinando di Puglia Civic Museum was established in 1984 in accordance with the directives of the Archeoclub d’Italia, which pursues “the highest possible placement of cultural heritage protection and conservation to maintain its stratigraphy for scientific purposes, to make it directly accessible to the communities that own it, and to serve as a factor of lifelong education.” It currently occupies the first floor of the former Municipal Headquarters located in Piazza Trieste. Management is entrusted to the local section of the Archeoclub d’Italia, a moral entity. The museum is divided into two sections: the Ethnographic section gathers humble objects from peasant civilization, while the Archaeological section boasts a rich collection of material ranging from the Neolithic to the Early Middle Ages. The collection is being enriched with the latest objects from Bronze Age settlements in the communal agricultural area and especially from the hypogeum area of Terra di Corte.
