The museum inside the Castle Carlo V of Monopoli was established in 2010 with the aim of being a reference point for the City of Monopoli, preserving, protecting, and exhibiting the historical evidence of the city and its relationship with the sea, from the Bronze Age to the early 1800s. The museum began a collection activity of significant artifacts on the theme, previously kept in municipal warehouses and therefore not accessible. The museum intends to be an important international showcase for the city of Monopoli, enhancing a little-explored sector of archaeology and the connection with the sea of the inhabitants who have lived in these lands. The chosen location for the museum is an additional factor in enhancing the city of Monopoli, as it is itself an important part of the history linking the city to the sea.
