Il Museo Civico di San Ferdinando di Puglia was established in 1984 in accordance with the guidelines of the Archeoclub d’Italia, which pursues “the highest possible placement of the protection and conservation of cultural heritage to maintain their stratigraphy for scientific purposes, to make them directly accessible to the communities that own them, and to serve as a means of ongoing education.” It currently occupies the first floor of the former Municipal Headquarters located in Piazza Trieste. Management is entrusted to the local section of the Archeoclub d’Italia, Moral Entity. The Museum is divided into two sections: the Ethnographic section collects humble objects of peasant civilization, while the Archaeological section boasts a rich collection of material ranging from the Neolithic to the Early Middle Ages. The collection is being enriched with the latest objects coming from Bronze Age settlements in the municipal area and especially from the hypogeic area of Terra di Corte.
