“The Piarist Fathers of Campi Salentina have promoted since 1990 the establishment of a Museum, driven by the need for a “visual narrative” of the History of Saint Pompilio (the Holy educator of the Piarist Schools who lived in Campi Salentina in the 18th century, whose sacred remains are still kept today in the Sanctuary adjacent to the Museum), a place that would collect all those personal and figurative elements allowing people to grasp the simple memory of the Saint as a more evident presence among his people. The works in the Museum mostly consist of objects, utensils, and garments belonging to the Saint, sacred relics, paintings by famous artists depicting his likeness, papier-mâché statues and sculptures that, in about 245 years since his death, have increasingly portrayed Pompilio Maria Pirrotti as a reference of devotion for all the Communities of Salento. Finally, significant important procedural documents of his canonization are also preserved.
