The Archaeological Documentation Center of Latiano was established with the donation of over 300 archaeological pieces (Marseglia Collection, 2009) and with documents from the Muro Tenente archaeological area (2011). The Center is hosted in the rooms of Palazzo Imperiali (Castle), located in the center of Piazza Umberto I, the town’s main square, adorned during the Fascist era with a fountain. Palazzo Imperiali dates back possibly to the 12th century, having been remodeled several times, until its current appearance (1714, as evidenced by some inscriptions on the front). The Palace became property of the Municipality after being transferred by Marquis Guglielmo Imperiali in 1909, the last descendant of the Francavilla family. In the 1980s/1990s, the Castle also served as the seat of municipal offices; today it houses the Municipal Library, the Civic Art Gallery, and the Archaeological Documentation Center. The adjoining chapel of the Addolorata, now the Church of the Immaculate Conception, is the work of Mauro Manieri, featuring a Greek cross plan and ribbed vaults with gilded stuccoes.
