The Museum of the Battle of Vittorio Veneto is based on the collection of artifacts related to the First World War gathered by Luigi Marson, a grenadier and Ragazzo del ’99 from Vittorio Veneto, and later constantly expanded with numerous other relics from continuous bequests, gifts, and discoveries, including the important photographic collection of Luigi Marzocchi (1888-1970).
The Museum was inaugurated on November 2, 1938 and over the years has also become a museum of itself, showing today how the Great War was seen and experienced when it was set up. It is an institution for the history and documentation of the 1915-18 conflict, with particular attention to the period of the invasion and the Battle after which the City of Vittorio Veneto is named; it collects numerous memories from the year of Austrian domination and the victorious days of the fateful October 1918 and illustrates the means by which the war was waged on both fronts.
