The Museo della Battaglia di Vittorio Veneto is based on the collection of artifacts related to the First World War gathered by Luigi Marson from Vittorio Veneto, a former grenadier and Ragazzo del ’99, and then steadily expanded over time with numerous other memorabilia coming from continuous bequests, gifts, and findings, including the important photographic collection of Luigi Marzocchi (1888-1970).
The Museum was inaugurated on November 2, 1938, and over the years it has also become a museum of itself, that is, it now shows how the Great War was seen and experienced when it was set up. It is an institution for the history and documentation of the 1915-18 conflict, with particular regard to the period of the invasion and the Battle that gives the City of Vittorio Veneto its name; it therefore collects numerous memories of the year of Austrian domination and the victorious days of the fateful October 1918 and illustrates the means with which the war was waged on both fronts.
