The “Loquat House” Museum is hosted in an old house in the historic center of Aci Trezza, next to the Church of San Giovanni. The architectural structure is the typical Sicilian style of the mid-19th century, with a courtyard, a small garden, and an entrance characterized by a full-round arch made of lava stone.
The interior is divided into two rooms: the first, the “The Earth Trembles” hall, collects photographs, posters, and various testimonials of the homonymous cinematic masterpiece by Luchino Visconti, filmed right in Acitrezza in 1947, featuring a cast of actors chosen entirely from the inhabitants of the small fishing village. The second, the “Malavoglia Room,” hosts testimonies of the world of the Trezzoti fishermen from the mid-1800s, with a collection of ancient work tools and everyday life utensils. Noteworthy are the photos personally taken by Giovanni Verga and the collection of letters to his brother Pietro.
