The Museum “Culture and Folk Music of the Peloritani”, active since 1996, stands as an exemplary experience for the preservation and enjoyment of a significant portion of Sicily’s oral traditional culture heritage.
In addition to reconstructing the long and complex organological history of popular musical instruments, classified according to the classic families of aerophones, chordophones, membranophones, and idiophones, the exhibition path highlights, with the help of a rich iconographic apparatus, educational-informative cards, and video supports, the typical features of each instrument, such as usage occasions, ceremonial functions performed, construction methods, and tuning techniques.
The evocative journey through the instrumental sounds of tradition, unfolding in four rooms, also offers a multimedia space for in-depth exploration, structured into a bibliographic section, a video station, and a digital area for listening to instrumental and vocal repertoires of festivals and work.
