Matteo Sansone Collection, Mattinata

The Sansone Collection, mostly displayed in the eponymous Pharmacy of Mattinata, located on the town’s main street, preserves historical, archaeological, and folkloric artifacts. It is definitely a must-visit for visitors, both for the ancient and original pharmaceutical furnishings and for the rich collection of archaeological finds.

An unusual combination of medicines and precious archaeological discoveries; over 4000 pieces collected by the late Dr. Matteo Sansone, a passionate collector who encouraged archaeological research and promoted its value. It houses a good part of the artifacts from the Monte Saraceno necropolis; but there are also Daunian steles, Daunian and Apulian vases, lithic tools, and even more recent statues belonging to 18th-century nativity scenes, aimed at reconstructing segments of our history.
