Marganai State Forest “Casa Natura”, Iglesias

The garden, whose name “Linasia” originates from the nearby Monte Linas massif, is located in the “Case Marganai” area, near the town of San Benedetto (a district of Iglesias), at an average altitude of about 720 meters above sea level. Nearby are the service buildings of the Marganai State Forest, which include the small museum “Casa Natura”, the “Conference Hall” and a large guesthouse. The introduction of botanical species in the garden has been carried out in a way to recreate some of the most significant vegetation environments of the Sardinian territory, well represented also in the Linas-Marganai complex; these include the holm oak forest, the thermophilic scrub, the riparian wetland environment, and the mountain rocky environment, the latter occurring on different lithological substrates.

All species introduced into the garden are accompanied by identification tags, each displaying the scientific name, the botanical family of belonging, and the distribution area (the common name is shown on separate tags). The Linasia mountain garden is open to the public all year round. The best period to visit is obviously spring, when most of the blooming occurs, but interesting “botanical excursions” can be made in all seasons.
