Foresta demaniale del Marganai “Casa Natura”, Iglesias

The garden, whose name “Linasia” originates from the nearby massif of Monte Linas, is located in the area “Case Marganai”, near the inhabited center of San Benedetto (a hamlet of Iglesias), at an average altitude of about 720 m above sea level. Nearby are the service buildings of the Marganai State Forest, to which are annexed the small museum “Casa Natura”, the “Conference Room” and a large Guesthouse. The introduction of botanical species into the garden was carried out in such a way as to reconstruct some of the most significant vegetation environments of the Sardinian territory, also well represented in the complex of Linas-Marganai; these include the holm oak forest, the thermophilous scrub, the riparian wet environment, and the montane rupicolous environment, the latter on various lithological substrates.

All species introduced into the garden are accompanied by identification labels, each of which reports the scientific name, the botanical family to which it belongs, and the distribution area (the common name is reported on separate labels). The Linasia mountain garden is open to the public all year round. The best period for visits is obviously the spring, during which most of the blooms concentrate, but interesting “botanical excursions” can be made in all seasons.
