The fortress was reopened to the public in 2000 after extensive restoration work. It stands majestically atop the rocky promontory of Castrocaro and is considered by experts as one of the most significant examples of fortified architecture. The exhibition tour includes a permanent display of weapons, pottery, furniture, and utensils from the medieval and Renaissance periods, as well as the Historical Museum. The latter, located on the ground floor of the Castellano Palace, preserves remains dating from prehistory, the Etruscan, Roman, Lombard, and Byzantine periods up to the Middle Ages: flint, jewelry, coins, medals, glass, pottery, weapons, and parchments.
