The Museum is set up in the rooms of Palazzo Fioritto, inside the Old Tower and in the ancient courtyard of the Swabian-Angevin Castle. It was conceived and passionately advocated by Prof. Michele Grana who, since the early 1980s, began collecting various artifacts (household and work tools, craft products, ancient costumes, vintage photographic material, etc.), piling them up in premises freely provided by friends and supporters favorable to the establishment of a Museum that would gather the testimonies of the Peasant Civilization which would have otherwise been lost, to make it known to present and future young generations. In July 1997, a first exhibition was set up with a small part of the over 3,000 artifacts in the premises on the ground floor of the former Municipal Library on Corso Garibaldi. The participation and favor of the population were such as to induce the Municipal Administration and the Gargano Mountain Community, which had purchased and restored Palazzo Fioritto, to allocate the ground floor rooms and the mezzanine as the Museum’s headquarters. The Museum was officially inaugurated in June 1998 and since then has been the destination of a growing flow of visitors, school groups and scholars.
