The former Tobacco Drying Sheds, together with Palazzo Albizzini, house the Burri Collection and are located in the southern outskirts of Città di Castello.
The collection was opened to the public in July 1990, following the acquisition and renovation of the industrial warehouses that were used until the 1960s for drying tropical tobacco.
An important museum of contemporary art, covering about 7,500 square meters, it is entirely dedicated to the works of Alberto Burri (1915-1995). The internationally renowned artist, born in Città di Castello, personally oversaw the interior design, skilfully reusing the industrial spaces.
He himself decided to exhibit in the pavilions the large-scale cycles created from 1970 to 1993. The outdoor areas are marked by some monumental sculptures: Grande Ferro Sestante, Grande Ferro K, and Ferro U.
