The museum is located within the Ex Opera Pia Monte Fornari complex, the Palace is situated in Piano San Rocco, where the Granary Pits are found. The building has a rectangular base geometry with an elongated wing along via XXV Aprile. It consists of two floors with an internal cloister. The supporting structure is rigid with perimeter stone walls and buttresses supporting the vault. The palace was constructed in different phases, thus undergoing successive expansions. The ground floor is the original core, once the seat of the Dominican monastery (16th century). Later, the monastery underwent elevation works with the addition of the first floor (19th century). Over the years, the palace has served various functions: initially it was the barracks for the “Nino Bixio” military company, then converted into an orphanage. Currently, it houses the civic Grain Museum, thanks to restoration and renovation works funded by the Municipal Administration and the European Community through the GAL “Piana del Tavoliere”.
