The Diocesan Museum of Bisceglie was established in 1980 and subsequently reopened to the public many years later. On December 22, 2008, an agreement was signed between the Archdiocese of Barletta-Andria-Trani and the Municipality of Bisceglie, which allowed the strengthening of the Archdiocese’s “Museum System” by providing for the use of the premises of the former Episcopal Palace and the old Seminary as the headquarters of the Diocesan Museum of Bisceglie. Thus, the Diocesan Museum, occupying an area of over two thousand square meters related to the entire Episcopal Palace adjacent to the Romanesque Cathedral, spreads over three floors. On the ground floor are the diagnostic and restoration laboratories with the application of modern technologies, directed by the Department of Physics of the University of Bari. On the first floor, there are exhibition halls and classrooms. On the second floor, the museum route develops in 18 rooms divided into three sections: the first includes the apartment that Bishop Sarnelli had made for himself and his successors; the second houses collections of ex-votos from various churches, jewelry, and women’s clothing dating back to the 19th century; the third section is dedicated to the “Treasures of the Cathedral” (Capitular Treasure – art objects including three paintings by Nicola Porta).
