The Speleological Museum of the Castellana Caves, inaugurated on January 23, 2000, on the 62nd anniversary of the discovery of the karst system, is named after the Lodigiano speleologist Franco Anelli (1899-1977), who was not only the discoverer of the Caves but also their promoter and passionate director. The Museum, housed in the building designed by architect Pietro Favia (1895-1972), serves as a valuable in-depth experience for curious tourists and has for several years been a destination for growing school tourism – nearly 6,000 visitors in the 2010-2011 school year – which through guided tours, educational workshops, and speleotouristic visits to the lateral branches of the Caves, represents one of the main novelties of the karst site in recent years.
