In the premises of the Succorpo of the Mother Church of Biccari dedicated to Mary Most Holy Assumed and Christ the Savior, the Diocesan Ecclesiastical Museum has been installed. The building, a significant example of neoclassical architecture, is of particular historical and artistic interest as it is a “container” of works of art, gathering goods from ancient churches of the city that have disappeared over the centuries. The current church was built over the previous pastoral church of the 17th century, which was demolished due to structural failures. The reconstruction project was entrusted to architects Anselmo Gasparri and Federico De Nunzio; the works began in 1850 and finished 25 years later. The majestic Church of Mary Most Holy Assumed is located in the center of the town; the structure has a three-nave plan, in the Latin cross shape. The right transept houses the altar of Saint Donatus, protector of Biccari, and the chapel of the Madonna of Constantinople. The left arm houses the altar of Saint Joseph, the Chapel of the Crucifixion, with the painting of the Pietà painted in 1584 by Giovanni Orazio De Luca, and the baptismal font. A large painting of the Neapolitan school from 1775 adorns the central vault; in the four corners under the dome, 4 canvases by Filippo Pirro have been placed, depicting the 4 evangelists.
