Located in a fortified house dating back to the 15th century, a classic example of late Gothic rural architecture, the Coumba Frèide Carnival Museum offers a journey through one of the oldest carnivals in the Aosta Valley, a tradition that has enlivened the towns of the Gran San Bernardo valley for centuries, comparing past and present.
- The exhibition’s creation was made possible thanks to photographs from the exhibition “Quand l’ours se réveille… – Le Carnaval en Vallée d’Aoste de 1900 à 1970”, owned by BREL;
- materials owned by the AVAS archives; works created within the “Project Carnaval”, by schools belonging to the Grand Combin Educational Institution;
- the European project “Grand-Saint-Bernard 360°”, funded by the Italy-Switzerland cross-border cooperation operational program 2007-2013 (INTERREG IIIA); materials loaned or donated by private individuals.
The museum is visitable by appointment.
