An alternative way to discover the many faces of the Aosta Valley is to plan walks along its irrigation canals. The ru itineraries – this is the name given to the canals once used for field irrigation – will offer not only scenic views that are otherwise not so easily seen but also an immersion into the ancient history of these places.
Here is a series of ru itineraries of the Aosta Valley, indicating the difficulty level of the walk, the necessary time, and the best period to venture on foot.
Ru de Ruet
It is an easy route, suitable for everyone, with an elevation gain of 76 meters and an estimated walking time of about 45 minutes. The Ru de Ruet originates from the Clusellaz stream and reaches the orchards of Sarre, where it still carries water today. The view from the village of Sarre itself is very interesting: it is indeed possible to notice the mountain, now halfway, so to speak. About 500 years ago, there was the terrible Becca France landslide that swept away the village of Thoura. It is recommended to venture between March and October.
