Situate in a stronghold dating back to the 15th century, a classic example of late Gothic rural architecture, the Museum of the Coumba Frèide Carnival offers a journey through one of the oldest carnivals in the Aosta Valley, a tradition that has enlivened the municipalities of the Gran San Bernardo valley for centuries, comparing past and present.
- The creation of the exhibition was made possible thanks to photographs from the exhibition “Quand l’ours se réveille… – Le Carnaval en Vallée d’Aoste de 1900 à 1970,” owned by BREL;
- to materials owned by the AVAS archives; to works created within the “Project Carnaval” by schools that are part of the Grand Combin Educational Institution;
- to the European project “Grand-Saint-Bernard 360°,” funded by the Italy-Switzerland cross-border cooperation operational program 2007-2013 (INTERREG IIIA); to materials loaned or donated by private individuals.
The museum is open by appointment.
