The Collection of the Ubaldian Memories, located in the convent of Sant’Ubaldo on Monte Ingino, is a permanent museum exhibition that, through objects, documents, and works of art, illustrates the life of Ubaldo, patron saint of Gubbio who lived between 1085 and 1160, and the cult dedicated to him over the centuries, also referring to the famous Ceri Festival, a city celebration that has taken place in Gubbio for about eight hundred years on May 15th, the eve of the saint’s death.
Among the exhibited works, in addition to paintings, wooden objects, and votive items, textile artifacts found inside the urn where the relics of Saint Ubaldo were kept are preserved. Notably important are: a “gown of coarse, tattered, patched, and dirty cloth with uneven sleeves” made of linen fabric, and a yellow silk and linen drape decorated in red featuring a series of birds and rampant lions, alternating and facing each other in parallel rows and enclosed within a rigid geometric wolf-tooth pattern, both datable to the 13th century.
