It is housed in the Faculty of Engineering building, an interesting structure designed in 1936 by architect Vaccari. It consists of about two hundred 19th-century scientific instruments, including numerous surveying squares and optical devices, a series of “Berthelmy” levels purchased by the Italian Geodetic Commission from 1888, as well as targets, compasses, theodolites, and tacheometers. Additionally, there are other thematic groups of objects. Of particular interest is the equipment used for determining longitude differences: a marine chronometer made by Frodsham in London in 1865, a tangent compass, and several drum register signal recorders. In the last group, composed of instruments for numerical calculations, there are brass tablets from the late 18th century for reducing inclined distances, an arithmometer, and 20th-century calculating machines.
