Castellana Caves Ltd, Castellana Grotte

The visit to the Castellana Caves – open all year round – is conducted with the assistance of tour guides. 

The route develops at an average depth of 70 meters along two itineraries: the first is 1 kilometer long and lasts 50 minutes, the other is 3 kilometers long and takes almost 2 hours. 

The temperature of the underground environments, constant throughout the year, is about 18 °C, while the humidity rate exceeds 90%.

La Grave, the first and largest cavern of the underground system, is the only environment naturally connected with the outside: 100 meters long, 50 wide, and 60 deep.

 The section of the Caves accessible to the public consists of environments very varied in shape and size. Stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, columns, precious crystals sparkle everywhere. The names of the rooms crossed are the product of the imagination of the first explorers: the She-wolf, the Monuments, the Owl, the Little Madonna, the Altar, the Precipice, the Desert Corridor, the Inverted Column, the Red Corridor, the Dome.

Finally, the last and most beautiful cavern of the underground system, the White Cave, defined by the richness and whiteness of alabaster, the brightest in the world.
