The Former Tobacco Drying Sheds, home to the Burri Collection along with Palazzo Albizzini, are located on the southern outskirts of Città di Castello.
The collection was opened to the public in July 1990, following the acquisition and renovation of the industrial warehouses used until the 1960s for drying tropical tobacco.
An important contemporary art museum of about 7,500 sqm, it is entirely dedicated to the works of Alberto Burri (1915-1995). The internationally renowned artist, born in Città di Castello, personally curated the interior layout through a skillful reuse of industrial spaces.
He himself decided to place in the pavilions the large-scale cycles created from 1970 to 1993. The outdoor spaces are characterized by some monumental sculptures: Grande Ferro Sestante, Grande Ferro K, and Ferro U.
