The archaeological area encloses the monumental remains of the Latin colony of Venusia (founded in 291 B.C.) from the republican period to the medieval age. There are large public complexes, such as the thermal baths built in the 1st century A.D. and renovated until the 3rd century A.D., residential quarters including a domus with mosaics, and a block bordered by two paved road axes. The majestic backdrop of the route is the Abbey of the Holy Trinity, fully restored to reveal the various construction phases: from the Roman imperial domus to the early Christian episcopal complex, to the Benedictine abbey structure dating back to the Norman era. Among later interventions, notable is the 16th-century rearrangement of the tomb of Robert Guiscard and his brothers. Both from the park and the church apse, you can access the Incomplete Church, an ecclesiastical structure built in the Norman period and never completed. The park’s expansion plans include integration with adjacent archaeological areas where the amphitheater and Christian and Jewish catacombs are visible.
