The archaeological area of Grumentum, a thriving Lucanian center conquered by Rome during the 3rd century BC, is a unique example in Basilicata of a Roman urban layout preserved almost entirely to this day.
The visit takes place in a landscape setting of exceptional charm where the public and private spaces of the Roman city are structured, still outlined by the regularity of the ancient street axes. From the theater, you reach the Italic small temple, the domus with mosaics, and, along the paving of the decumanus, the Forum area with public buildings – civil and religious: Capitolium, Caesareum, Porticus, Curia, and Basilica. The route then continues to the imperial baths and the monumental amphitheater, strategically positioned on the eastern edges of the hill.
