The Arch of Constantine in Rome celebrates the triumph of Emperor Constantine over Maxentius, which took place on October 28, 312 AD following the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. As stated in the inscription above the central archway, the monument was solemnly dedicated by the Senate to the Emperor in memory of that triumph and on the occasion of the Empire’s decennalia at the beginning of the tenth year of his reign on July 25, 315 AD.

The monument, incorporated in the mid-12th century into the Frangipane fortress, underwent restorations and studies starting from the late 15th century throughout the 16th century, but the most significant restoration dates back to 1733, when extensive repairs were made to the missing parts.
