L’Arco di Costantino di Roma celebrates the triumph of Emperor Constantine over Maxentius, which took place on October 28, 312 AD following the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. As can be seen from the inscription placed above the central archway, the monument was solemnly dedicated by the Senate to the emperor in memory of that triumph and on the occasion of the Imperial decennial celebrations at the beginning of the tenth year of reign on July 25, 315 AD.

The monument, included in the Frangipane fortress in the mid-12th century, underwent restorations and studies from the late 15th century through the entire 16th century, but the most significant intervention dates back to 1733, when extensive reinforcements were made to the missing parts.
