The Museum of the City and Territory is set up in the early twentieth-century spaces of the former prison and tells, through artifacts of every kind, the long history of Corato.
The exhibition path starts from the oldest archaeological findings in the area, in the Neolithic settlement of Torrepaone, and continues with the pre-Roman testimonies related to the burial mounds of San Magno and the milestones of the Roman Via Traiana.
Numerous are the artistic artifacts from the sixteenth century displayed along with the stone materials from Corato buildings collapsed due to a hydrogeological disaster in 1922. The historical section is completed by the demo-ethno-anthropological section, which collects ancient objects and tools from peasant civilization.
