The Museum of the City and Territory is set up in the early twentieth-century premises of the former prison and tells, through artifacts of all kinds, the long history of Corato.
The exhibition path starts from the oldest archaeological findings found in the territory, in the Neolithic settlement of Torrepaone, and continues with the pre-Roman testimonies related to the burial mounds of San Magno and the milestones of the Roman Via Traiana.
There are numerous artistic artifacts from the sixteenth century exhibited along with stone materials from Corato’s buildings that collapsed due to a hydrogeological disaster in 1922. The historical section is completed by the demoethnoanthropological section, which collects ancient objects and tools of peasant civilization.
