The Museum of Rural Civilization, founded on July 21, 2001, was born thanks to the donation of the Sanvitese Vitantonio Vasta who, with patience and dedication, collected a rich collection of objects and artifacts of peasant civilization.
The Museum is located in the fascinating setting of the former Convent of the Dominican Fathers and currently, in addition to the Museum, it hosts the Municipal Library “Giovanni XXIII”. In the premises of the Museum the local rural history and traditions are preserved, where the conserved objects tell the daily life “of our grandparents”.
All working classes are represented: the peasants (whose work is widely testified by the many agricultural tools used for plowing and tilling, for harvesting and gathering), the blacksmith, the carpenter, the saddler, the grinder, the shoemaker, etc.
All the objects and tools present in the Museum are the result of careful research among the local population, but are above all spontaneous and disinterested donations from numerous Sanvitese citizens.
