The Museum of the City and Territory is housed in early 20th century spaces of the former prison and tells, through various objects, the long history of Corato.
The exhibition route begins with the oldest archaeological discoveries in the area, in the Neolithic settlement of Torrepaone, and continues with pre-Roman testimonies linked to the tumulus tombs of San Magno and the milestone markers of the ancient Roman Traiana road.
Numerous art works from the 16th century are displayed alongside stone materials from Corato buildings that collapsed due to a hydro-geological disaster in 1922. The historical section is complemented by the demo-ethno-anthropological section, which gathers old objects and tools from peasant civilization.
