La Fototeca Nazionale di Roma constitutes one of the richest, most important, and complex state photographic collections, related to Italian society of the 20th century and the national, historical-artistic, archaeological, architectural, and landscape heritage.
The archive, established in 1892, consists of 400 thousand black and white images for which negatives are owned; 700 thousand black and white photographs, only positives, coming from various collections; 20 thousand color photos.
