La Fototeca Nazionale di Roma constitutes one of the richest, most important, and articulated state photographic collections, related to Italian society of the 20th century and to the national, historical, artistic, archaeological, architectural, and landscape heritage.
The archive, established in 1892, consists of 400 thousand black and white images for which negatives are owned; 700 thousand black and white photographs, only positives, coming from various collections; 20 thousand color photos.
