The National Photographic Archive of Rome is one of the richest, most important, and complex state photographic collections related to 20th-century Italian society and the national heritage, including historical, artistic, archaeological, architectural, and landscape aspects.
The archive, established in 1892, consists of 400,000 black-and-white images for which negatives are available; 700,000 black-and-white photographs that are positives only, from various collections; and 20,000 color photos.
