Recently opened in a specially designed location, the National Archaeological Museum named after the ‘Etruscans of the Frontier’ collects artifacts from the Villanovan and Etruscan-Campanian center of Pontecagnano. It is a heritage of inestimable value, whose most significant core is represented by artifacts from over 9000 tombs excavated in the necropolises of Pontecagnano over the last fifty years. The visit route follows an exhibition order that, unfolding in chronological order, with sections dedicated to illustrating the different eras, from the Eneolithic period to the Roman Age, attempts to offer the visitor moments of insight into the city and its urban development, the necropolises, the sanctuaries, and the artisanal productions. Central to the exhibition route is the section dedicated to the aristocracies of the Orientalizing period (late 8th – late 7th century BC), to which some tombs can be attributed that, due to the composition and quality of the funerary goods, have been defined as ‘princely’.
