Recently inaugurated in a specially designed building, the National Archaeological Museum dedicated to the ‘Frontier Etruscans’ collects artifacts from the Villanovan and Etruscan-Campanian center of Pontecagnano. It is a heritage of inestimable value, whose most substantial core is represented by the artifacts from the over 9000 graves excavated in the necropolises of Pontecagnano over the last fifty years. The visit path follows an exhibition layout that, unfolding in chronological order, with sections dedicated to illustrating the different eras, from the Eneolithic period to the Roman Age, attempts to offer the visitor moments of deepening on the city and its urban development, on the necropolises, the sanctuaries, the artisanal productions. Central to the exhibition path is the section dedicated to the aristocracies of the Orientalizing period (late 8th – late 7th century BC), to which some burials are attributable that, due to the composition and quality of the funerary goods, have been defined as ‘princely’.
