Cantina Bentivoglio

Walking along via Belle Arti (the Academy and the National Art Gallery are just a stone’s throw away) in Bologna and turning onto via Mascarella, we find ourselves within minutes in front of the entrance to the Cantina Bentivoglio, one of the most famous and spacious, located in the cellars of the sixteenth-century Palazzo Bentivoglio.

The place is lively, not only because of the large groups that come and go at the tables, but also because it is one of the favorite hangouts for jazz lovers.

Every evening, in the lower and largest floor (separated by a door and a small staircase from the first and quieter section), groups, singer-songwriters, musicians of national and international fame perform, brought here by the reputation of the venue and its star and co-owner, Giovanni Serrazanetti.

An authority in the Italian jazz world and beyond. Between performances, the evenings pass very pleasantly, accompanied by excellent wines and local specialties like cured meats, melted tomini cheese with vegetables, legume and vegetable soups, cavatelli pasta with thyme and zucchini, grilled meats, and homemade desserts.
