Bolzano, la funivia del Renon

This, essentially, is the small-big revolution of a system that, in a few minutes, is able to transport 210 people from the city center to the Renon Plateau, at an altitude of 1400 meters; a fantastic place, where the air is crisp and the view of the Dolomites is priceless. In addition to the technical features, the new cable car boasts impressive numbers: 4560 meters in length for 950 meters of elevation gain; 6 cabins of 35 people each; a 12-minute trip each way for a total of 550 people per hour. Numerous safety devices as well: double carrying rope; clamps to stabilize the traction cable; 26 cameras. It is also the world’s first automatic cable car equipped with rescue vehicles. Inside the elegant and sinuous valley station, designed by the Bolzano architect Luca Zangirolami, a bar and an information point have been set up, and in the adjoining building, an underground car park for 130 parking spaces has been located.
On the new system, it will also be possible to travel until late at night (from August 1, on summer weekends, until 11 pm), enjoying a suggestive night view of the Bolzano basin or the fiery sunset on the Dolomite peaks. The new cable car adds to two other existing and fully functional systems: the cable car to San Genesio and the one to the Colle.
Small jewels, which help make Bolzano an ideal town, recognized as Alpine City 2009 for its excellent climatic and environmental conditions, which, also in the coming years, will allow it to produce ever smaller amounts of carbon dioxide to be disposed of through natural processes and within the urban area.
