This is, essentially, the small-great revolution of a system that, in a few minutes, is able to transport 210 people from the city center to the Ritten Plateau, at an altitude of 1400 meters; a fantastic place where the air is fresh and the view of the Dolomites is priceless. In addition to the technical features, the new cable car boasts impressive numbers: 4560 meters in length for 950 meters of vertical drop; 6 cabins with 35 people each; a journey time of 12 minutes per trip for a total of 550 people per hour. Numerous safety devices as well: double carrying rope; grips to stabilize the traction rope; 26 cameras. It is also the world’s first automatic cable car equipped with rescue vehicles. Inside the elegant and sinuous valley station, designed by Bolzano architect Luca Zangirolami, a bar and an information point have been set up and in the annexed building, an underground parking lot for 130 cars has been located.
On the new system, it will also be possible to travel late into the evening (from August 1st, on summer weekends, until 11 p.m.), enjoying a suggestive night panorama over the Bolzano basin or the fiery sunset on the Dolomite peaks. The new cable car adds to two other existing and perfectly functioning systems: the cable car to Jenomes and the one to the Colle.
Small jewels that contribute to making Bolzano an ideal small town, recognized as Alpine City 2009 for its excellent climatic and environmental conjunction, which, even in the coming years, will allow it to produce increasingly smaller amounts of carbon dioxide to be disposed of through normal natural processes and within the urban area.
