It came to life in 1978 thanks to the initiative and commitment of some citizens, who formed a voluntary association to display the collection of artifacts and war materials they recovered in the Santerno valley. Today, after the restoration of Palazzo Alidosi and thanks to contributions from the municipality, the Institute of Cultural Heritage, and some private donors, the museum spans over 500 sqm, featuring sections dedicated to the First World War, the Second World War and the frontline passage in the valley, partisan activity, and the deportation of citizens from Castel del Rio. The collection consists of more than 1600 pieces and mainly includes weapons, uniforms, equipment, and war materials from the armies that fought in the Imola and Bologna territories during the Second World War. There is also a good number of artifacts and testimonies about the local reality in the period before the outbreak of the conflict. A thematic library, also a product of donations, houses about 1500 texts.
