The small Museum is located in the historic State Railways building. Inside the hall, it is possible to find several sections that over the years will be enriched with additional objects and documents related to the history of Torrese seamanship, which are listed below: – Collection of tools related to shipyard work. – Biography of many Master Shipwrights and history of the Shipyards. – Torrese nautical modeling. – Classical modeling for educational use. – Onboard equipment and nautical instruments – Sea safety instruments. – Photographic archive dedicated to Torrese shipowners, with vintage photos of that extraordinary era in the nineteenth century and the early decades of the last century that laid the foundations for the City’s economy and welfare. – Documents concerning the ancient arts of Torrese seamanship (sailmakers, caulkers, sawyers, rope makers) A section dedicated to our Italian Navy and one that recalls the extraordinary feat of Commander Ajmone Cat in Antarctica could not be missing. The documentation regarding the “People of the Sea” (those who allowed Italian fleets, merchant and passenger, to sail the seas worldwide) is currently collected on CDs and DVDs and can be viewed using a computer. One of the goals of this Museum is to provide young people with those cultural, social, and artistic elements (long lost) of our maritime tradition. The Museum, therefore, is a historical and educational place of collective memory: a message written by the Naval League Section of Torre del Greco for this and for future generations of Torrese citizens.
