Il piccolo Museo is located in the historic building of the State Railways. Inside the hall, it is possible to identify some sections that over the years will be enriched with further objects and documents related to the history of Torre maritime life, which are listed below:
– Collection of tools related to work in the Shipyards.
– Biography of many Master Shipwrights and history of the Shipyards.
– Model making of Torre’s nautical life.
– Classic model making for educational use.
– Onboard equipment and nautical instruments
– Safety equipment at sea.
– Photographic repertoire dedicated to Torre shipowners, with historical photos of that extraordinary era which in the 19th century and the first decades of the last century laid the foundations of the city’s economy and well-being.
– Documents concerning the ancient arts of Torre maritime life (sailmakers, caulkers, sawyers, rope makers)
A section dedicated to our Italian Navy and one recalling the extraordinary feat of Commander Ajmone Cat in Antarctica could not be missing. The documentation concerning the “Sea People” (those who allowed the Italian merchant and passenger fleets to sail the seas of the whole world) is currently collected on CDs and DVDs and can be viewed through the use of a computer. One of the goals of this Museum is to provide young people with those cultural, social, and artistic elements (long dispersed) of our maritime tradition. Therefore, the Museum is a historic and educational place of collective memory: a message written by the Torre del Greco Naval League Section for this and for the coming generations of Torre citizens.
