The Civic Museum was established as a Contemporary Art museum in 1979, and was named “San Cesario Civic Museum” in 1984, anticipating a collection expansion to include ancient, modern artworks, and cultural assets related to the territory. Over the years until today, the museum has hosted numerous exhibitions including Aldo Calò (1979), Ezechiele Leandro (1981), Francesco Barbieri (1984), Nino Cappello (1987 and 2003), and Nullo D’Amato (2006). All exhibits organized throughout this period aimed to promote the work of Salento artists whose donated works helped build and enhance the Museum’s collection. The museum was completely redesigned in 2012.
