The Amphitheatre is located in the Duomo district of Terni, the area least affected by modern transformations.
Situated on the southwestern edge of the urban area, it is the best-preserved Roman monument in the city, still under excavation.
Despite the overlap of medieval and modern structures (complex of the bishop’s palace and the Curia, the former Madonna del Carmine church), the entertainment building is still appreciable in its entire elliptical development (98.50 x 73 m), preserved up to 10 meters in height.
The amphitheatre is mostly constructed in opus reticulatum, primarily bicolored with pyramidal elements (cubilia), made of travertine and limestone arranged in alternating rows, which originally emphasized the decorative effect of the visible parts.
