The Archaeological Museum of Caltanissetta, having left its historic location in the city center, was reopened to the public in 2006 – renovated in its routes, educational content, and exhibits – near the Norman Abbey of Santo Spirito.
The new building, hidden among olive and almond trees in the Nisseno countryside, shares its designer (the late architect Franco Minissi) with the “Paolo Orsi” Museum in Syracuse and, although on a smaller scale, also the choice of a polygonal floor plan and building materials such as concrete, porphyry, light woods, glass, metal, creating a combination that enhances, without overpowering, the ancient nature of the contents.
